Look in your mailbox for this letter...or send me your address

Dear Friends and Family,

I hope this autumn finds you enjoying pumpkin patches, apple orchards and the warmth of hot cocoa with your families and friends.  Like many of you, I’ve been able to continue these fall traditions with my children and hope to for many years to come.  It’s often during these enjoyable moments that I find myself thinking of the children who aren’t able to have the same experiences as my Meghan, Clinton and Anna.  Those children whose parents are struggling not just to make ends meet to but to clothe and feed their children on a daily basis.

As you may or may not know, I work for an organization called Loaves & Fishes.  Loaves & Fishes is an on-site, hot meals program that serves 1,500 individuals each weeknight at 8 locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area (in MN).  The core value of Loaves & Fishes is “everyone is entitled to meal with dignity.”  We serve anyone who is hungry, no questions asked.

In September alone, the number of guests dining at Loaves & Fishes increased by 19%.  As our numbers rise, our donations decrease causing Loaves & Fishes to think about cuts—wage cuts for our staff (many who come from our guest population), emergency food cuts, and possibly dining site cuts.  At a time when the need is the greatest, the thought of closing a site that serves between 150 and 300 individuals each weeknight is not only heartbreaking, it’s earth-shattering.

This fall Loaves & Fishes is promoting a Sponsor-A-Family campaign to help us continue to serve those who are hungry in our community.  According to Hunger Solutions MN, there are 200,000 people in the Twin Cities alone that do not have enough access to food on a daily basis.   Through the Sponsor-A-Family program, your $10 donation will provide a family of four—a hot, nutritious meal in a safe environment in addition to other resources crucial to both survival and self-sufficiency.

Enclosed, please find a donation envelope and brochure describing the Sponsor-A-Family program.  If you would like more information you can visit our website at www.loavesandfishesmn.org or call me (763.227.5585). I greatly appreciate your support of this much needed program and more importantly, you’re support of families just like mine.

Warmly,

On issue voters

Here's what I have to say to the one issue voters.  All Republican politicians claim to be Pro-Life or Anti-Abortion, take your pick on the rhetoric.  Yet, the Republicans had the House, the Senate, the Presidency AND the majority in the Supreme Court and did NOTHING in regards to Abortion.  If there was anytime to do it, that would have been it.  And we know that they are not against constitutional amendments because they tried to pass one on gay marriage.  I believe that that Republicans use their single voter platform as a way to keep voters.  They have proven that they have no intention of making any other changes.

Another note, abortion rates were at their lowest under Clinton because of the education programs that he supported.  Programs which Bush and his cronies rejected and now abortion is back up.

As for the economy, we are here today because of the great Republican leader, Ronald Reagan.  His trickle down economics never trickled down, and his de-regulation has caused many greedy men to prosper.  The Democrats have had control for barely one year.  Believe me, the damage has been done.  George W. Bush inheirited a fairly sound economy from Bill Clinton and look what he's done with it.

I have a problem with people condeming (or judging) someone's Christianity based on their vote.  If you read the New Testament, you hear a LOT about taking care of the poor (it's in the old testament too!) something the Republicans are hell bent against.  The Democrat party is the social justice party...giving the voice to those who have none.  Liberal policies protect and support people.  Take out abortion and anti-gay rhetoric and I ask you, what "moral ground" does the Republican Party have left?

I'm at a pretty rough spot right now.  Please send good thoughts my way.

one price reduction and still no showings...

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

I am up in arms about this bailout.  I thought the Republicans were against government support.  Now they want to bail out the greedy corporations that have killed us financially so they can walk away with millions while it is the rest of us that will suffer through loss of jobs, loss of equity, loss of savings, and more.  I mean, isn't it the Republican economic strategy that got us here...deregulation.  Now they want the gov't to give them unlimited money with no limits.  Come on.  I say enough is enough.  And they say the poor have an entitlement attitude.

Go Obama.
